Scrumptious Seafood from Talk of the Mountain Seafood.

TOTMS Story: It all started in 1988 when my mom who could cook her butt off for a tiny woman in Arlington, Va ( Green Valley Community). We were short on rent and my mom was setting there in tears. I said “Ma don’t cry it’s gonna be ok”. Well I truly indeed experienced a rent party. She assembled her crew and I got on my BMX and rode through the hood and told everyone my Mom is selling dinners and it was on and popping. People were lined up from our house all the way down the street. No one knew it was a rent party but us. It got so big they shut her down because it was causing to much traffic in the neighborhood. Customers couldn’t wait for this little kid to come out of the Mountains every summer to cook the best Boardwalk fries ever. After my moms passing in 1989, I continued on exploring the food industry in 1990, working for the original 5 Guys every summer coming out of the Mountains of Markham, VA (Sage). How did the name Talk of the Mountain Seafood come about. My Dad passed in June 2014 and I was sitting beside his grave side in our family cemetery full of tears because my super hero was gone. I said people are gonna be talking about my Dad and people are gonna be talking about me, its gonna be the Talk of the Mountain. He held my hand one month before he passed and told me “Look at me son, don’t do anything else stick with the food, ummm um boy you can cook”. Everything about this business has a meaning that’s why so much effort is put in the food. We have a family legacy to continue!!!

LAVENDER BEER from Powers Farm Brewery: Noon to 6 p.m.

Hi!  We’re Powers Farm & Brewery, an integrated sustainable farm, hopyard & brewery. Our fruits and vegetables come mostly from organic and heirloom seed stock — we think it tastes better — and we grow everything sustainably without any chemical fertilizers or pesticides. We practice companion planting and grow a wide variety of flowers that attract beneficial insects like bees.

Our on-farm brewery focuses on brewing a variety of beer styles that feature ingredients from our field.  Our beer is available exclusively at our taproom, open Thursday through Sunday, and a handful of like-minded local restaurants.  Come in and sample our constantly changing, seasonal lineup.

Our hop yard is made up of traditional American varieties, strung on our trellis system built from on-property cedar posts. We harvest every August for a variety of beer styles.

Lavender Cookies We will have three kinds of lavender cookies available. Lavender, Lavender-Lemon and Lavender Chocolate.

Lavender-Lemon Cupcakes Sure, cutting lavender is fun, but really, a lot of customers just come to the farm for these cupcakes:) They are made freshly at the farm and lightly flavored with lavender and topped buttercream frosting.

Erin’s Elderberries

A premium elderberry syrup company run by a Certified and Registered Holistic and Nutrition Coach. Erin is a proud Mama of a 3 year old, who she created her recipe for when he was 1. She uses only organic ingredients and local raw Virginia honey.

Yummy Syrup Beginnings: So cliff notes version of how Erin's Elderberries, LLC came to be: An amazing MOPs mom friend of mine, knowing my love for all things community and research said to me one day "hey you need to set up a local Facebook group for Moms to ask questions, find answers, share, and learn all the random things you know". So after a couple of months of prodding from her...I did. It continues today, anyone is welcome, and its called "Raising Tiny Healthy Humans".

One night, when I was making my first Elderberry Syrup batch of the season, I posted in the group "hey, I make this's what's in it, my 1.5 year old loves it..anyone want some?". Well, fast forward 5 months and I was getting text messages from moms I didn't even know! Saying"hey, I'm friends with so and so, who is friends with so and so who's kid loves your syrup, can I get some??!!".  Four months after that, and I got all of my licenses, inspections and all that required by my state to operate a syrup business and well, now I want to share it with everyone!! I never planned on going into this type of business, but I can say, its something I put a lot of love into.

Everything I make is in small batches, with as much love and care as possible. I don't make separate syrup for my family. One jar from the batches I make stays in our family fridge. I spent months researching the best recipe, learning about the individual ingredients and the right measurements of each. When I set out to make the perfect recipe for my family, my toddler was quality control. After some failed attempts, one week he loved one I made, and one night he looked at me and said "Momma I want some yummy syrup. No ice cream, just the yummy syrup that goes on top.". And that friends, is why Erin's Elderberries is "Elderberry Yummy Syrup". I will always remember that night, and I wanted to pay tribute to that one mom win!!

Baby bunny pen looking zoo

Hippity hopping around the large bunny pen are the cute rabbits. Children and adults adore watching them. We’ve planted a clover patch so you can pick a few stems to throw over the fence and watch them come closer to nibble. We decided a few years ago to end the “petting zoo” because it was much to hard on the bunnies health-wise.

Fairy Dust Creations Jewelry

Born and raised in Hanover, PA, I was always creating.  In 1st grade I used to borrow the Highlights for Children magazines from school to take home and create.  At age 12 went to a local rummage sale and bought a beautiful dress decorated with vintage beads that I immediately took apart, using these beads to create simple beaded chokers for myself and my friends (now, I could cry – ruining that dress!)

I moved to Virginia in 2003 and took a Christmas ornament beading class with a friend, and was immediately hooked on bead weaving! Bead weaving has such a broad range of uses and endless variations.  I began creating intricate designs to wear - for myself, for my friends, and eventually for sale.  I have taught classes on many of my designs.  I incorporate sterling, genuine stones and quality components in my designs – I wanted to be different and create something valuable and unique.

Now back in Hanover, I spend my spare time with my new husband, my 4 grandchildren, and bead weaving whenever I can find the time.  I enjoy making unusual color combinations & experimenting with multiple textures.  My love of color play shows in many of my creations.

Lavender Plants for Sale $10

lav plants for sale.jpg

YES! We will be selling pots of Phenomenal Lavandin $10.00.

Phenomenal Lavandin (Lavendula x Intermedia) is "phenomenal" in its name and once you see it, you'll know why. Huge, dense mounds of silvery green foliage are topped by long wands of electrifying purple blossoms in midsummer. Intensely fragrant and a haven for birds and bees, this lavender is compact and densely branched. Best of all, Phenomenal stands up to tough winter weather better than most other cultivars we have grown. Phenomenal won't die back in winter like most other lavenders, giving it new landscaping possibilities in the south and west, and making it a true perennial in the far north and east, where other varieties may struggle. Tolerant of heat and dry soil, this hardy beauty brings charm and sophistication to hedges, borders, and containers. Find a place for Phenomenal in your garden and prepare to be amazed! Zones 5-8.

Live sewing demonstration You can watch and learn how we make our eye pillows, dryer sachets and pillow mates!

Play areas for children Children love the farm because there is plenty of open space. There a super sweet playhouse completely decked out an a sand box with trucks and such.

Ample photo opportunities among our blooms and all around the scenic farm!
